The Last Outdoor Project of THE YEAR!!!

The four week project of turning our Arborvitae trees back into Arborvitae bushes is finally complete. The limiting factor in our project was the amount of garbage we created. In Erie they don't use the traditional garbage cans that are issued by the city, instead garbage is set out at the curb and the garbage man physically gets out of the truck and loads the garbage by hand. This may not seem odd to everyone, but we have not seen a person pick up garbage for probably 10 years back in Utah. Back to the story...we are "allowed" to put out as many bags of garbage as we wish, but since Ang and I feel bad for the garbage man and we don't want to ruin a very good thing; we have decided to limit the amount of "extra" trash that we throw out.

Anyways...4 weeks...26 bags of garbage and a pile of firewood later, our arborvitaes now are about 10 feet shorter and about 4-5 feet more narrow.

The before pictures:

These before pictures do not do justice to how much of an EYESORE these trees/bushes were. I forgot to take anymore before pictures, but I'm sure Rick, Sheryl and Jen can attest to how bad they were. It is sooo nice to be done with the major projects and now that the weather has started to get cooler; we will have to wait until next year to "enjoy the resort".

I am so glad to see phase four completed, good work Nate. I literally did not lift a finger to help, unless taking a few of those photo's count for anything!

We just got the remnants of Ike last night, the wind was howling and blowing down leaves and a few branches, it was raining like a son of gun! Can't wait to start raking leaves.

Nice work. That is a 100% improvement. Being the owner of a hedge that is 140 feet long and 6 tall, I can really appreciate what you went through to accomplish that. Mine is a big enough job as it is and has to be trimmed 2-3 times a year. Your job looked mammoth compared to mine so I feel that I should probably never complain about doing mine again; however, I probably will, because it is a constant source of aggravation during the warm months. In fact, it is out of control right now and I can't wait until it is trimmed for the last time this summer.

Way to go on a job well done! You two have really accomplished a lot since you have been there. I'm impressed.

Very impressive, Nate! I'm sure the neighbors are loving what you guys are doing around the yard! How nice to be so considerate of the garbage man too. I can't believe all of the things you've done to your house in such a short time. Makes me feel guilty with ours...

Holy Cow! That really looks nice. What a huge improvement. That thing was definitely out of control. I am shocked that it cleaned up so nice. I worried that there would be bald spots when you trimmed up the sides.

I wondered if you guys got blasted by the storm. Locally, they only reported on Chicago getting dumped on, but I was pretty sure you would take a hit as well.

The last outdoor project.. because in a few weeks you will be inundated with 12 feet of snow.. Yuck.. Love to ski on it but don't miss shoveling it, driving in it, freezing in it, or dealing with it.. Good job though Nate.. Quite the big job...

That is a huge improvement! Doesn't it feel great to see that you have improved something? I love it when the yard work, weeds and trimming, are freshly done. Everything looks so nice! Good job. I love you guys and really miss you. Let's see, is someone have a birthday pretty soon?

GREAT JOB Nate!! Do you think you can come put my toilet paper roll holder up?

Ang said...

Shelly, hire out the toilet paper holder and post the bill on the fridge!

Way to go Nate, it looks great. Is your backyard as big as it looks, it looks huge! We always wanted a big yard, now that the kids are pretty much gone and we are in the 50's club ours is plenty big. Keep up the good work.

Are you sure those after pictures are the same bush? :) They were huge! Looks good!

You guys are so good to your garbage man!Nate, you look real good up there getting stuff done! However maybe like our handy gals, you could add some spastic videos to go with it!

Nate; I should have let you do more work when you were at home. We have 25 pine trees which could use a little help. I'm getting too old or lazy for all of this crap. Your trees have miraculously turned into a beautiful hedge. Maybe you are looking for a job in the wrong field.
